Short intro
Soviet Kitsch is the major label debut and third album by American singersongwriter Regina Spektor. It was originally self-released in May 2003 but was reissued in August 2004 when Spektor signed with Sire Records. The title is drawn from Milan Kundera's expression for the vacuous aesthetics of Stalinist-style communism, a theme in his book The Unbearable Lightness of Being. One version of the album was released with a bonus DVD, which included a short promotional film titled The Survival Guide to. Regina Spektor is, without a doubt, the most talented representative of New York's antifolk scene, althoughn calling her. The I'm-just-a-wee-lass stance is apparent throughout Soviet Kitsch, as well as her live performances, where she's been known to pout and giggle and murmur and feed the crowd chocolates what the Russians call manernost' is her only liability, but it's badly holding her back. Take the best song on the record, Ghost of Corporate Future this exquisitely structured number steadily spirals up from a plinky opening to a majestic finish, from a street sketch to a Big Statement on life and how to live it. Soviet Kitsch was Regina Spektors minor release, turned major label debut. Released initially on Shoplifter Records, and later on Sire records, the album captured unexpected mainstream appeal. In their review of the album, Pitchfork called Spektor, without a doubt, the most talented representative of New Yorks antifolk scene. At the end of the review, they explained: Soviet Kitsch, which was deliberately intended as a minor release, is currently enjoying a wider audience than it appears to have been made for. Album 2004 11 Songs. Soviet Kitsch. Regina Spektor. Maybe it's just the preponderance of piano in her music, but Regina Spektor sounds more like a traditional singersongwriter in the best sense of that phrase than her anti-folk contemporaries. On Soviet Kitsch, her third album - and major-label debut - her sound is more refined than ever before, but there are still plenty of rough edges and unexpected twists and turns. Regina Spektor is a 24-year-old Russian-born American who arrived in the Bronx at the age of 9, persevering in the study of the piano despite material difficulties. Some meetings allowed him to succeed: she was spotted by Julian Casablancas. This album is full of emotions: it is sad, melancholy and euphoric. The universe of the singer is offbeat and have been easily carried away by the piano. Best track: Us. 2012 сингл Russian Version. What We Saw from the Cheap Seats. 2012 Deluxe Version. Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch review: Soviet Kitsch is stripped down and beautiful yet sassy and sarcastic. Regina Spektor speaks her mind on all kinds of subjects, singing and writing lyrics with brilliance. Luckily, whoever did this album art gave little clues about Regina that show what this look really means. Shes staring at you, taking a good gulp of whatevers in that bottle, and shes not going to offer you any. Hell, she isnt even going to put on anything special for you, just a plain white tanktopRelated to Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch
