Short intro
Rain Tree Crow is the sole album released by English band Rain Tree Crow, a reunion project by the members of the new wave band Japan. Recorded in 1989 and 1990 and released in April 1991, it was the first time that members David Sylvian, Mick Karn, Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri had collaborated as a four-piece since 1982. The album peaked at number 24 on the UK Albums Chart. Rain Tree Crow - Rain Tree Crow. Rain Tree Crow is the result of a collaboration between former Japan members David Sylvian and Mick Karn. Sylvian and Karn teamed with keyboardist Richard Barbieri and Steve Jansen, adding guitarists Phil Palmer and Bill Nelson for their self-titled debut. Like a mellower, new age-oriented version of Japan, Rain Tree Crow explores stark soundscapes that sound alternately beautiful and desolate. Although it is a bit too challenging to provide a good introduction to Sylvian and Karn's music, the album remains fascinating for their fans. Track Listing. Rain Tree Crows sole eponymous studio album was conceived among rediscovered tension among its members, tension which had previously led to the disintegration of the band then called Japan in 1982. Mick Karn, Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri were all in favour of reusing the Japan name in order to increase the albums chances of hitting the mainstream, but singer David Sylvian, who was notoriously controlling during the Japan days, chose a different name regardless. In the end, the album only made it to 24 on the UK Album Chart, and the band split up shortly after. Musically, the album.
