Forget the verses is an auspicious marriage of ideas and mindsets. Howe Gelb sounds incredible as usual,his lyrics are fragmented but completely align with the left-field,cut-up zeitgeist of this album which Radian carry off with fractured ambiguity. Despite being perhaps the most incongruent match up I've heard this year, it manages itself spectacularly well it's a gripping album, but also warm, and even touching at its most restrained. It isn't seamless - the music sometimes seems at war with itself as it veers between anarchic feedback, tense rhythmic centerpieces and almost rock-like tunes and piano ballads - but the work is so painstakingly cut together with Radian's trademark scalpel that it's hard not to admire the work that went into. This isnt to say Radian verses Howe Gelb is unmusical, though. An undeniable and unique groove lies at each intersection of these disparate ideas.
