I was fortunate to see Quicksilver Messenger Service in concert on two occasions, and this welcome release is a terrific souvenir of a great band. The sound quality is hardly state of the art, but that's a minor quibble. I really like Quicksilver and I would buy this album again however, they sound really drunk and probally on acid too, not that that necessarilly has to be a bad thing. Exactly one year earlier, on New Year's Eve 1969, the existing band consisting of guitarist John Cipollina, bassist David Freiberg, drummer Greg Elmore, and pianist Nicky Hopkins had been rejoined by guitarist Gary Duncan, who had left the group after its second album, Happy Trails, and singersongwriter Dino Valente, who had been intended to be a member of Quicksilver at their. formation in 1965, but was forced to serve a jail sentence for drugs instead.
