Short intro
The Renaissance is the second studio album by American hip hop artist Q-Tip, released November 4, 2008, on Universal Motown Records. The follow-up to his solo debut album, Amplified 1999, it was recorded after Q-Tip's Kamaal the Abstract 2009 was initially shelved in 2002 by his former label Arista Records and his proposed effort Open was shelved by Universal Motown, both deemed commercially inadequate by the labels. The Renaissance was produced primarily by Q-Tip and features guest contributions. The Renaissance - Q-Tip. This album shows a man infatuated with love and life without sounding maudlin: Gettin' Up, produced by Q-Tip, takes an old early 1970s Black Ivory single, makes it gleam with modern sheen and lets Tip loose on the kind of love jones you'd expect from a man with 15 years' worth of relationship experience and maturation since Electric Relaxation. Dance on Glass is the lyrical highlight of the album: it starts out with an unaccompanied verse that addresses the whole state-of-rap argument with a veteran's wisdom, but Tip keeps going a cappella for an entire minute. This album had been in the making since 2005, under it's original titles Open and Live At The Renaissance. Two songs were released in that time, Work It Out and The Fever- neither of which made it on the album, but the official first single Gettin' Up did. It starts off with Johnny Is Dead and leads into Won't Trade which isn't a bad song, but is the weakest compared to the rest of the album. Later on in. Q-Tip - The Renaissance review: The Renaissance is a nice back-to-the basics return for Q-Tip. And all of that is Q-Tips new album The Renaissance. It isnt too different than anything from A Tribe Called Quest, but it is much different than his debut album, and ultimately what some may have expected from Q-Tip. Still, The Renaissance is an excellent effort, only hindered by Q-Tips aging flow and some similar concepts. If you are a hip hop fan of any kind, not getting The Renaissance would be like not getting the next Jay-Z record, it would be a travesty to have missing from your collectionRelated to Q-Tip - The Renaissance
