Short intro

Odyssey Number Five is the fourth studio album by the Australian rock band Powderfinger, produced by Nick DiDia and released on 4 September 2000 by Universal Music. It won the 2001 ARIA Music Award for Highest Selling Album, Best Group and Best Rock Album. The album was the band's shortest yet, focusing on social, political, and emotional issues that had appeared in prior works, especially Internationalist. Odyssey Number Five. Anchored by the razor-sharp, Brit-rock-inspired My Happiness , the album strikes a balance between crazy-hummable hooks and lyrics soaked in personal strife and political disenchantment. The groups anger boils over with Like a Dog , a snarling indictment of their governments mistreatment of aboriginal Australians. Powderfinger - Odyssey Number Five 2000. It was the bands first successful leap into the United States, with the album resulting in them supporting Coldplay on tour. The album takes inspiration in part from gospel and soul music, according to singer-songwriter Bernard Fanning. Odyssey Number Five Q&A. Odyssey Five The self-titled track is an intermission of sorts. A short, single versed, melodic piece that sort of acts as a partition between the two halves of the album. However, regardless of it's short running time, it is still an essential song, containing the lyrics - Welcome to the new suburban fables - which became the promotional line for the album and tour. Musically, it's sublime. Well, in the verses at least. For the chorus seems to come from nowhere, breaking out into a huge rock number tugging at your heart strings yet still managing to make you nod your head. For trivia's sake, it's another film number, featuring on the Two Hands soundtrack
