Dry is the debut studio album by Polly Jean Harvey, released on 30 March 1992. Speaking to Filter magazine in 2004, Harvey said of her debut album: Dry is the first chance I ever had to make a record and I thought it would be my last. So, I put everything I had into it. Borrowing its primitive attack from post-punk guitar rock and its form from the blues, Dry is a forceful collection of brutally emotional songs, highlighted by Harvey's deft lyricism and startling voice, as well as her trio's muscular sound. Her voice makes each song sound like it was an exposed nerve, but her lyrics aren't quite that simple. If PJ Harvey had her way, she would have made her public debut on Slints Spiderland. At age 20 or so, she answered the Kentucky five-pieces call for a female backing vocalist, but never heard back. In one way, you can imagine it: both subtly violent acts from their respective south, with the accents to prove it. Instead, Harveys debut single, which came nine months after Spiderland, i. PJ Harvey is a powerful singer, song writer and musician. This CD is not for someone expecting happy, sappy love songs or a tame beat. She exudes a raw, feminine, tough, and sometime comical outlook in her songs. Dry is P. Harvey's debut album, released in 1992 it was a critical success while it did modest on the commercial side of things. Harvey was a breath of fresh air to the industry and was that generation's Patti Smith. Her mixture of pounding riffs and raw vocals created one superb album, the multi-talented Harvey wasn't content with just singing she had to co-produce the album, play guitars and violin, and write all but two of the tracks those two she co-wrote. PJ Harvey's first studio album was released in 1992. It peaked at no. 11 on the UK. Lyrics, Translations, Video. 11 on the UK album charts and was certified silver for sales exceeding 60,000 copies.
