Short intro

Paul Galbraith born 18 March 1964 is a Scottish classical guitarist known for his unique style of playing. Paul Galbraith had his first guitar lessons with Graham Wade, continuing his studies with Gordon Crosskey at the Chethams School for Young Musicians. In 1980, he was a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition. At the age of 17, Galbraith won the Silver Medal at the Segovia International Guitar Competition. Andrés Segovia, who was present, called his playing magnificent. Album 1998 32 Songs. For 8-String Guitar: III. Violin Sonata No. 1 In G Minor, BWV 1001 Arr. For 8-String Guitar: IV. Haydn: Keyboard Sonatas Nos. 11, 31, 32 and 57 Arr. for Guitar. Galbraith for 8-string guitar. Galbraith for 8-String Guitar Paul Galbraith Paul Galbraith Plays Louis Galbraith 8-string Guitar. Delos 3232. Sep 1997 Jan 1998. 2-CD, TT: 117:52. Recorded at First Congregational Church, Los Angeles, California, USA. Galbraith also recorded the Orchestral Suites with his guitar quartet and some Haydn sonatas. His lute suites are also very very well done and I recommend anything by Galbraith. Bradley Lehman wrote November 16, 2001: Kirk, have you heard the set of sonatas and partitas played by Hopkinson Smith on lute. For 8-String Guitar: II. Artist: Paul Galbraith. Album: Bach: The Sonatas and Partitas Arr. for Guitar, 1998. These are Galbraith's own transcriptions of four Haydn keyboard piano sonatas, played on an 8-string guitar with exquisite refinement and beauty. Key transpositions were necessary to accommodate the change in instrument, but do not in any way detract from the beauty of the pieces. It's almost as if these works were meant for the guitar. Tempi are a bit on the slow side, but again this is not necessarily a minus. It might have been interesting to hear him really cut loose on a fast number, but what he has presented here is marvelous. I wish he would record more Haydn on the guitar. He had this guitar built so he could achieve his dream of playing Brahms' Variations on an Original theme hence the name of his instrument, The Brahms Guitar. Альбом года от.
