Black, Brown and Beautiful is an album by American jazz composerarranger Oliver Nelson featuring performances by a big band recorded in 1969 and first released on the Flying Dutchman label. Selections from the album were released on Nelson's 1976 compilation A Dream Deferred while the title was also used for the CD rerelease of Johnny Hodges album 3 Shades of Blue. His family was musical: his brother was a saxophonist who played with Cootie Williams in the 1940s, and his sister sang and played piano. I originally was looking to see if a previous release that was on vinyl, that I still have, was available on compact disc and it is on this recording.
