Of Montreal's darkest and most experimental record to date, Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer gorily chronicles frontman Kevin Barnes' recent relationship woes, all while rebuilding the band as a mechanical synth-popglam hybrid. The breakup album is a familiar pop music trope- countless artists have harnessed the emotional fallout of a relationship to fuel their songwriting efforts. This is a concept album, partly composed while Barnes was living in Oslo, that details a relationshipmental breakdown and subsequent transformation into his alter ego of Georgie Fruit in the second half. Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer Q&A. But the key appeal of Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer is not sincerity or lyricism, its the glossy mutant groove. And when the album loses the plot in a bog of prickly Prince falsettos and overwrought East Bay funk, one ought not hesitate to hit that skip button. Just goes to show that Of Montreal, whether doting on their indie roots or creating dance pop tizzies, gravitates towards a gaudy kind of magnetism. Its forgivable because in the end, Hissing Fauna proves itself a glittery slice of contagious queer pomp thatll make anyone with a hint of soul power concede to the dance floor. Hey, does anyone know if this release accounts the tri-fold? I own the tri and would like to make sure I am adding the correct one to my inventory. Thanks!

All editions of the album come in a double gatefold, which is probably what you mean by tri-fold. This edition is for the Polyvinyl US release, the best way to check your vinyl against Discogs is by the catalog number, and if possible the runout details stamped/etched onto the record.

Great album on NICE heavyweight vinyl.Packaging could have been better I.e.:including a lyric sheet etcBut overall good sounding vinyl&album. Some tracks sound quite compressed though as though they could have been mastered better for vinyl but overall a great cinematically exciting masterpiece. Especially the track "the past is a grotesque animal",which I think would pair perfectly with the 70s trippy film "the second coming of Suzanne"!
