The album was self-financed, self-produced, and recorded over an eight-month period at the home of producer Eugene Pererras. The band's debut music video for the lead single I Was Right won an MTVU Freshman Face poll and was added to the channel's playlist. It's lucky for New Years Day that they have the commanding vocal presence of lead singer Ashley at the helm of their sugary poprock exploits, since without her they'd be just another band waiting for a turn on the Warped Tour's main stage. Sure, they have ex-Home Grown bassist Adam Lohrbach in their ranks, but its doubtful anyone still spinning Act Your Age will be interested in New Years Day's debut, My Dear.
