Neil Young is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young following his departure from Buffalo Springfield in 1968, issued on Reprise Records. Some sources place the album's release date on January 22, 1969, while other sources have the release date as Young's 23rd birthday, November 12, 1968. It was then partially remixed and re-released in November 1969, but at no time has the album ever charted on the Billboard 200. Decade is a compilation album by Canadian-American musician Neil Young, originally released in 1977 as a triple album, now available on two compact discs. It contains 35 of Young's songs recorded between 1966 and 1976, among them five tracks that had been unreleased up to that point. It peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, and was certified platinum by the RIAA in 1986. Neil Young was near the height of his fame in early 1973 when he launched a punishing 62-date arena tour that drove him to the brink of madness. Midway through he fired drummer Kenny Buttrey and brought on David Crosby and Graham Nash to help out with the vocals, but it did little to help him mentally cope with the pressure and monotony of life on the road. Eight years later, with Youngs personal life in turmoil, the two booked Malibus Indigo Ranch Studios with only the actor Dean Stockwell looking on to record Hitchhiker, a solo acoustic album that was never released until today. The album contains the original versions of some of Youngs best-loved songs as well as two previously unreleased tracks. Harvest, released in 1972, turned Neil Young into a household name.
