“Why did Billy Holly, Richie Havens and the Big Bopper all retire from the music business in 1959? Because their vocal chords were all damaged in an accident!”

Neil Hamburger. Is he still, as his 1997 debut album proudly proclaimed, “America’s Favorite Funnyman”? If not, he’s now officially this country’s favorite passive-aggressive maniac. This 2012 live performance chronicles the latest trails and tribulation of this fictional stand-up comic. Is he still the poor sap of past releases? Well, here, he’s now a poor angry sap.

“Why did Britney Spears get so addicted to cocaine? Because Kevin Fed-Her-Lines!”

I doubt anything will match the emotional trauma ride the audience went through in his last recorded live performance, One February Night, in which found Hamburger opening for Tenacious D to an amphitheatre filled with confused D fans. A moment of such raw rage was captured when the now angry D fans where chanting “You Suck! You Sick!” at him.

“What dose disgraced rapper Tupac Shekur have in common with Hollywood blockbuster motion picture Ocean’s 13? Well, both of them were shot in Las Vegas!”

This internet-release does have its own sense of doom. The room might be smaller and the audience might be more use to the man and his legend than the “D” fans, but the mayhem is no less painful. Almost half of the comedy here is from the audience reaction from Neil’s ugly celebrity material…in fact, he barely mentions Heath Ledger’s name in a joke before the crowd revolts and unloads on him.

“What was Elvis Presley’s worst ever release? The ejaculation containing Lisa Marie!”

You could say that this is more of a party record than a standard comedy title; willfully joining in atmosphere, laughing and living along with the voices inside the Redd Foxx records of yore. The update here, however, is that you’ll probably pop this in out of frustration if your roommate, girlfriend or gay boyfriend watches too much of those celebrity shows and cable channels and you want to wash out the fucking Kardashians…or whomever Neil is destroying.

“What do you get when you place a penny into each of the asses of the five members of Smashmouth? Nickelback! Hey, don’t blame me. I stole that joke from Kris Kristofferson.”

What I like about this title is that it’s all of the above; a demolition derby through the pits of semi-outdated pop culture. Neil is a poor (fictional) sap, so the S. O. B. has damned near nothing to loose….and, what do you know?!....I don’t either.
