King Bee is the fourteenth and final studio album by blues singer and guitarist Muddy Waters. Released in 1981, it is third in a series of records done for the label Blue Sky Records under producerguitarist Johnny Winter. Recorded in three days and in the wake of Muddy's failing health some of the band members, namely Winter and guitarist Bob Margolin, were not happy with the result. Muddy Waters led the charge in the late 1940s and early '50s to electrify Delta blues in an urban setting. His peerless combo would include such future stars as ace guitarist Jimmy Rogers, harmonica virtuoso Little Walter and piano wizard Otis Spann. But Muddy was always at the center of Bee was Muddy's last studio album & perhaps a release that might only appeal to Blues & Chess collectors. Not in the best of health & certainly his vocals couldn't match the powerful '50's recordings & he would pass away about 2 years later. That being said , he still had a great backing band , includng Johnny Winter & recently deceased Pine Top Perkins & Willie Big Eyes Smith & this was still better than a lot of stuff that came out in '81.
