Possibly one of the best and most intense "Huapango" versions, with a particularly intense climax thanks to the inclusion of a perfectly restored "Teponaxtli" ( an ancient pre-hispanic musical instrument of the percussion family, made from a piece of a hollowed tree trunk, and used by the Aztecs and other indigenous tribes before the arrival of the Spanish conquerors). While the recording is considered somewhat "dry" due to the sound character of the early Soundstream digital PCM recorder, it was more a result of the unexpected discovery of some undesirable echoes caused by less than ideal acoustics of the concert room (the large Sala Netzahualcoyotl), which lacked a proper acoustic treatment at the time of the recording. That necessitated a closer than usual placement of the microphones; otherwise, the recording resulted in a very good Vinyl LP that makes justice to the excellent performance of the orchestra, cleanly conducted by Invited Director Enrique Batiz.
In addition to the music, the LP envelope artwork truly is a work of art, containing beautiful reproductions of antique paintings much in accord to the characer of the music.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
