Short intro
Filles de Kilimanjaro French for Girls of Kilimanjaro is a studio album by American jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. It was recorded in June and September 1968, and released on Columbia Records. It was released in the United Kingdom by the company's subsidiary Columbia CBS in 1968 and in the United States during February 1969. The album is a transitional work for Davis, who was shifting stylistically from acoustic recordings with his second great quintet to his electric period. Filles de. In September, when the album was almost finished, Chick Corea and Dave Holland replaced Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter. James Browns Cold Sweat inspired Frelon Brun, and Mademoiselle Mabry originated in the first notes of Jimi Hendrixs And The Wind Cries Mary. Since it's billed as Directions in Music by Miles Davis, it should come as little surprise that Filles de Kilimanjaro is the beginning of a new phase for Miles, the place that he begins to dive headfirst into jazz-rock fusion. All the way through, Filles de Kilimanjaro is a full out enjoyable listen, showcasing enough variety and virtuosity to not make the 70-minute album a tiring listen. Petits Machins showcases the best ability of each member of the band, arguably the best on the album although the shortest. A more uptempo and fiery the song, it is a welcome shorter listen after the epic Tout De Suite. This item:Filles de Kilimanjaro by Miles Davis Vinyl . Only 3 left in stock more on the way. Filles de Kilimanjaro' recorded in two sessions and released in 1968 sits between Miles in the Sky' and the landmark In a Silent Way' where Miles' new electronic music style defined the jazz fusion groove. The album title FdK is an ironic reference to Pablo Picasso's painting Filles d'Avignon' girls of Avignon' because although the pieces all have French names the music is definitely not French in style but something far more exotic. Il me manquait cet album de Miles Davis. Un album qui amorce une transition artistique conduisant le Jazz vers de nouvelles contrées. Read moreRelated to Miles Davis - Filles De Kilimanjaro
