The Beatles ABBEY ROAD album was released on 26th September 1969. Mike Westbrooks OFF ABBEY ROAD was commissioned by Commune di Reggio Emilia, Italy and premiered in December 1988 as part of a Festival celebrating the music of The Beatles. The Mike Westbrook Band presents 'Off Abbey Road' at London's Exhibition Road Show, 5 August 2012. This is a weird record, to say the least. Pianist Mike Westbrook and his English avant-garde octet remade the Beatles' entire Abbey Road record with unusual interpretations of each of the titles. The instrumental segments work best Peter Whyman and Alan Wakeman are fine on reeds but the overly pompous vocals of Phil Minton and Kate Westbrook, which lack the Beatles' humor, largely sink this strange outing. The Mike Westbrook Big Band, also now known as The Uncommon Orchestra, released an album called A Bigger Show in 2016. Recorded in concert at the Barnfield Theatre Exeter by Jon Hiseman and Miles Ashton, it is a reworking of the Waxeywork Show originally performed by The Village Band.
