Short intro
Ommadawn is the third studio album by English musician, songwriter, and producer Mike Oldfield, released on 28 October 1975 on Virgin Records. It peaked at No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was reissued by Mercury Records in June 2010 with additional content. A sequel album, titled Return to Ommadawn, was released on 20 January 2017. By late 1974, Oldfield had become increasingly disappointed with the negative reaction towards his second album Hergest Ridge 1974. However, the situation sparked. Boxed is a compilation album written and mostly performed by Mike Oldfield, released in 1976. It features SQ system 4 channel quadraphonic remixed versions of his first three albums Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn and some collaborations. Boxed features quadraphonic remixed versions of his first three albums. Oldfield later explained that instead of being true 4 channel sound, the initial quad remix of Tubular Bells, released few months after the stereo version, was a strange fake out-of. Mike Oldfield born Michael Gordon Oldfield, 15 May 1953, Reading, Berkshire, England is largely known for Tubular Bells, his groundbreaking album from 1973, the success of which also bankrolled Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Records, for which Tubular Bells was the inaugural release. However, his musical career has spread over more than 40 years encompassing a range of styles, with varying amounts of success. According to the Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock, his style is labeled as Oldfield Progressive. Ommadawn was far from a solo album by Oldfield. Notable among these are Paddy Moloney on Uillean pipes and Bridget St John and Oldfield's sister Sally on vocals. British multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield offers up this warmly crafted sequel to his 1975 classic Ommadawn, marking a return to a more organic style of composing. After polling fans online about what type of approach they'd like to hear, Oldfield was overwhelmingly urged to revisit the acoustic style heard on his first three albums. Mike Oldfield. Mike Oldfield follows up 1975's Ommadawn with Return To Ommadawn, his 26th studio album. Go Unlimited. Ommadawn, released in 1975, was Oldfields third album, and was in many ways a more concise, thematically-unified musical exploration than Tubular Bells. There are aficionados who will readily state that Ommadawn stands as Oldfields best album. Like its progenitor, Return is a thematically tight, two-track exploration of a musical landscape.
