Midori Takada is a composer, multi percussionist, and theater artist renowned in Japanese vanguard circles. She will tour Europe this spring. Midori released two solo albums: Through The Looking Glass and Tree Of Life, and wrote music for Tadashi Suzuki's theater plays. Her hypnotic, minimalist music is based in the concept of coherence between sound and the human body. She performs solo on marimba and other percussion instruments. She debuted on the scene of Berlin Philharmonic, performing with the RIAS Symphonie-Orchester Berlin just after graduation from Tokyo U. Songs in album Midori Takada - Through The Looking Glass 1983. The Japanese composer Midori Takada's newly reissued album is an assimilation of musical modes from around the world. It belongs in the pantheon alongside Steve Reich's most notable works. The rarest of all of Takadas works though was her 1983 solo effort, Through the Looking Glass, never released on CD and fetching ludicrous sums online for an original vinyl copy. Unable to financially sustain Mkwaju, Takada disbanded the ensemble and entered the studio by herself to realize this music. Through the Looking Glass sold poorly upon its release, but a YouTube algorithm later brought it fresh attention now the Japanese musician is on a U. The Japanese composer and percussionist Midori Takada released Through the Looking Glass in 1983. Three decades later, a YouTube algorithm introduced it to a world of new Rago for The New York Times. Unfortunately I didn't read this page in time. Disappointed that my brand new, sealed copy also has a lot of pops and cracks on the b-side. it's really annoying. I'm not a stickler about this kind of stuff, but it detracts a lot from the music so much so I have a really hard time enjoying the record. Don't purchase this

Pops throughout first half of side B here, pretty annoying :( Good pressing other than that.

I purchased Through The Looking Glass (LP, Album, RE) PFLP 006, WRWTFWW019It plays very well but not perfectly. It is easy to be swept away in the music, but there are consistent background pops. My copy was sealed. The music itself seems fine and of proper range and depth. Basically a brand-spanking-new record sounds like it's already been owned a while. I cleaned it with fluid and a dust bar. It sounds the same, neither improved nor harmed. I like the album quite a bit. The presentation is fine. The music is lovely. It maaaaaay be better to get this on CD, but I don't own a CD player.

I bought it new on release day and the first 10 minutes of side B are unlistenable. There's constant loud crackles/distortions throughout that completely distract from the music. I can't see any scratches on the record itself so it has to be down to the pressing. Has anyone here had any luck getting a replacement copy sent, or am I asking too much?

Maybe I'm lucky (probably), maybe they've fixed the problems, maybe other commenters are overreacting, but my copy sounds wonderful. Very silent vinyl for what is often very quiet music. A couple very small pops, a couple very small clicks, but no distortion, well mastered, very nice packaging. Would reccomend, but make sure you get it from a place with a good return policy lol

Yes, it's a pretty common thing actually. On the other hand, some records look perfectly clean but sound like shit.People looking for perfection should really avoid buying vinyl imho...

Oh also, as a previous commenter mentioned, it's not the prettiest looking vinyl in the world. Mine came with scuffs, but it plays perfectly.

My copy only has one pop on side A. I knew what I was going to get when I bought it because the seller had already opened and listened to the LP. I recommend potential buyers to try and get a used copy, otherwise, you won't know what kind of condition the LP is in. Because of this reissue's mediocre quality, I'd rather not take chances with an unused copy.

reading all the comments after buying this on vacation, and then opening it up once i got home to find scuffs and scratches all over the B side, i could feel the disappointment already.. lucky enough, it still sounds great, phew

My copy has audible pops throughout. It is most noticeable on A2. Sounds fine otherwise. Most disappointed with Palto Flats not saying anything about the shoddy pressings of this LP (at least to my knowledge they have not addressed it),

I would write them directly if you have any issues. I believe the pressing plant that did the manufacturing is replacing faulty copies -

My copy has some light crackle in the quiet moments but otherwise sounds good. Nice wide and crisp. Played on a Thorens with a AT440. I'd recommend getting this from somewhere you can easily return it as it seems quality control is poor. Nice sleeve and liner notes on a once incredibly rare release. Worth picking up even at the price.

My copy looks and plays perfectly well, no crackles nor pop, and regarding surface noises, this is a vinyl so it is expected, especially on quiet moments - ideal format to fully enjoy is imho CD.

my pressing is terrible. side two first track constant crackle plus the occassional tearing sound. really horrible. the second track si not so bad but it is far from quiet.wouldn't say avoid as it is such a wonderful record but the pressing faults and flaws keep breaking the spell. why are so many modern pressings so bad?

thanks for info. must be the problem in pressing plant. mistakes can always happen, but when it comes to something like pressing vinyl, i would expect not to have doubts in evolution of a human race. ;) so long waiting for this one, and now when i would like to support the record label and the artist i wonder why should i buy a record that i am not sure if it would give me pleasure or pain in the ass! i am not buying the expensive one, but i wonder if it is better... maybe the statement from the label is coming, since they have such a rude-mental name, i am scared of writing them and asking. :)

Any more comments/feelings on quality of release? It is said it is from master tapes, so i hope the pressing plant/supervisor did their job. Since i can't order it from shops and on discogs are a lot of pieces of LP for sale i am wondering if is everything allright. Happy consumers do you give green light? Thanks for your info.
