Michael Chapman's first album, released by Harvest in 1969. In 1969 British singersongwriter Michael Chapman took the U. s folk-rock world by surprise with his debut album, Rainmaker, on the Harvest label. In an era when each week garnered a new surprise in the music world, gathering serious and widespread critical acclaim wasn't easy, and finding a buying public near impossible. Rainmaker showcases a new talent who holds nothing back for himself. Folk-Rock Folk. Michael Chapman. Songs in album Michael Chapman - Rainmaker 1969. Michael Chapman - It Didn't Work Out. One of the beneficial side-effects of the current folk boom is the attention it's brought to Sixties pioneer spirits, with reissues of such as Roy Harper and Michael Chapman, whose debut, Rainmaker, was one of the first batch of releases on EMI's hippie label Harvest in 1969. It's aged remarkably well, thanks to the dextrous diversity of Chapman's technique. An instinctive improviser, he remains perhaps the closest English equivalent to John Fahey, drawing on blues, jazz, ragtime and Indian raga tonalities besides the core folk stylings: the instrumental Thank You PK. Michael Robert Chapman born 24 January 1941 is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. Chapman originally began playing guitar with jazz bands, mainly in his home town of Leeds in The West Riding of Yorkshire. He became well known in the folk clubs of the late 1960s, as well as on the 'progressive' music scene, and has recorded over 40 albums to date. In 2016 Chapman celebrated 50 years as a professional musician. He still plays professionally and regularly tours in the UK, Europe and US.
