My Farewell to Elvis is the 27th studio album by American country singer Merle Haggard, released in 1977 and his second release for MCA Records. It reached Number 6 on the Country album chart. The single From Graceland to the Promised Land reached number 4 on the Billboard Country Singles chart. The album is a tribute to the music of the late Elvis Presley, who died on August 16, 1977. He is backed by Roy Nichols, Ronnie Reno, and Mark Yeary of The Strangers. Merle Haggard's 1977 album My Farewell to Elvis was obviously a labor of love. His interpretations of That's All Right Mama, Jailhouse Rock, and Don't Be Cruel more than stand the test of time. Even Blue Christmas, which could have been omitted for a zillion other tunes, fits in perfectly because Haggard respects it as an Elvis standard, not just a Christmas song.
