Short intro
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto Nathan Milstein album. The recording of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto by Nathan Milstein and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Bruno Walter was the first classical long-playing record, and the first 12 LP of any kind, in 1948. The issue marked Columbia Records' move away from the 78 rpm format for classical, and the success of Columbia's format soon forced RCA to follow suit. The recording had already been released as Columbia. Nathan Milstein. Bruch: Violin ConcertoMendelssohn: Violin ConcertoProkofiev: Violin Concerto. Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. If you are looking for the best recordings of Bruch's and Mendelssohn and Prokofiev's 1st concerto, you are on the right track: there are very few versions which can compete with Milstein's Mendelssohn and Prokofiev, and nobody could match him in Bruch's G minor concerto. Finally, if you love Milstein and already have some of this music with him, but in a different version, it is a good reason to buy these studio variants from 1953-1954: maestro Milstein seldom played the same work in exactly the same way twice and constantly experimented with fingerings and bowings.
