Short intro
To Be or Not to Be also known as The Hitler Rap is a song recorded by Mel Brooks in 1983 for Island Records. The song appeared on the soundtrack album for the movie of the same name. It was derived from the burlesque show within the film but did not appear within it. It also echoes Brooks' 1967 film The Producers, with the lines Don't be stupid, be a smarty. Come and join the Nazi Party, taken from the song Springtime for Hitler. On the movie's soundtrack album, but not in the movie, is a novelty rap song entitled To Be or Not to Be The Hitler Rap. This song was released as the word started getting around So I said to Martin Bormann, I said Hey Marty Why don't we throw a little Nazi party So we had an election, well, kinda sorta And before you knew it, hello new order To all the little mothers in the Fatherland I said Achtung baby I got me a plan. The Third Reich would have surely dissapproved especially of the video, complete with camp SS officers, and suspender-clad beauties echoing 'Cabaret', making this record all the more delicious. It's as good, if not better, than 'Springtime for Hitler' - the lyrics are wonderful packed with cracking lines like why don't we throw a little nazi party etc and, as a bonus, our Mel chucks in a potted history of Hitler's rise and fall, to boot a jackboot, naturally. by Mel Brooks.
