Disposable Arts is the fourth solo album by American rapper Masta Ace, his follow up album since Sittin' On Chrome 1995. The concept follows a young Brooklyn man's release from prison, his return home, and his life at The Institute of Disposable Arts, a school in which Ace enrolls after realizing how bad the situation in Brooklyn is. The album sold poorly compared to his previous albums, due to JCOR Entertainment folding a month after its release but it was generally well received by critics and. Disposable Arts is the fourth album by Brownsville rapper Masta Ace, released on October 16th 2001 via JCOR Records. It included the single Dont Understand. The projects conception followed a hiatus in Aces career, after falling into obscurity due to the disbandment of Masta Ace Incorporated, alongside label complications. He explained this in a 2DOPEBOYZ interview: I had been working on an album for Big Beat Records, which was with Atlantic Records. I had been working on that album from about 1996 to the early part of 1998. I had recorded somewhere around 17 or 18 songs for that . Though Ace had been active in the underground scene since the release of 1995's Sittin' on Chrome, appearing on a number of singles and contributing memorable verses to various collaborations, the artist's disdain for the industry and disgust with his contemporaries kept him out of the studio for lengthy recording sessions. It's tempting to dismiss this album as another failed comeback by an '80s pioneer, yet Masta Ace stays one step ahead of irrelevance. True, there's an endless string of weaknesses, starting with at least 20 minutes of filler.
