Having established herself as one of indie rock's premier shredders, Marnie Stern returns with an emphasis on songcraft on her rhapsodic fourth album, The Chronicles of Marnia. While Stern still delights in plenty of the lightning-fast guitar heroics with which she's made a name for herself, the album feels like a more open and exploratory affair. Marnie Stern's fourth album is an extension of the transition that began on her 2010 self-titled record toward a more controlled, subdued sound. Marnia is still aggressive, busy, and bright, but new drummer Kid Millions gives it a welcome sway, and the relative calm lets Stern's vulnerability shine through. Halfway through Proof of Life, from Marnie Stern's fourth album, The Chronicles of Marnia, she makes an admission she's never made on record before: I am running out of energy. Her voice is uncharacteristically low, her explosive finger-tapping guitar conspicuously absent. Marnie Stern is the third album by Marnie Stern, released on October 5, 2010 on Kill Rock Stars. Marnie Stern has a reputation as being the lady who shreds, with her fourth album she has stepped away from the dense layers she has used before to create a sound that is wide open. Louder Than Wars Adrian Bloxham has been listening. This album is all about the guitars, great big massive guitars mixed up with little noisy guitars and of course, Marnies trademark shredding guitars worked into and under and over the sounds here. Its not a dense record, its easy to get into and easy to get lost inside. Band Name Marnie Stern. Album Name The Chronicles of Marnia. Type Album. Released date 19 March 2013. Labels Kill Rock Stars.
