Jazz music community with review and forums. 0 rating 0 review. Album 1997. Filed under Avant-Garde Jazz By MARIO PAVONE. Pavone's writing on this all-original date ranges quite widely, from the bop-oriented Lunch With Julius and Alberta Clipper to the darker, more unorthodox Dancers Tales and Double Diamond. Superior arranging by Chapin, Ehrlich, and McEachern yields some highly unpredictable sounds from the ensemble. The title track opens the album with an intricate four-part passage, superbly rendered by Chapin the fact that Chapin and Ehrlich solo on baritone sax and clarinet, respectively, only adds to the tune's surprise. Mythos is an album by bassistcomposer Mario Pavone recorded in 2001 and released on the Playscape label. The guests are trumpeter Steven Bernstein and tenor saxophonist Tony Malaby, both of whom bring a fiery irreverence to Pavone's music. Pavone's sturdy bass playing anchors the session, leading the group through involved unison passages. Listen free to Mario Pavone Dancers Tales Dancers Tales, Bootleg and more. 8 tracks 58:32. I've always been attracted to music that throws up a challenge on first listening. Like the 1956 Riverside album The Unique Thelonious when at 16 years I heard Monk artfully deconstruct Tea for Two - Oscar Peterson this was not Lunch with Julius on DANCER'S TALES reminds me of Monk in its opening. But there are other similarities. The music is not predictable and never boring. Marty Ehrlich Large Ensemble Album: A Trumpet in the Morning 18122013 Marty Ehrlich, conductor E.
