Short intro

Baila Baila Baila: 1943-1948. Harlequin's Baila Baila Baila is a handy collection of radio transcription discs by Machito & His Afro-Cubans which were produced by the World Broadcasting System during the years 1943-1948. It also contains a 1942 Decca recording that features vocalist Miguelito Valdés, who was formerly heard with Xavier Cugat's orchestra. It just so happens that the material on this disc fills a gap in the time line of Proper's four-CD Machito box set Ritmo Caliente, so Baila Baila Baila would complement that set, as well as Pablo's essential Machito collection, Mucho Macho. The latter remix helped the song reach new chart peaks in several countries, including number 66 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The single was certified platinum for moving one million units in United. He was one of the few Afro-Cuban singers who performed both coro chorus and inspiraciones verses within the same tune. Most importantly, Machito infused every song in his dozens of albums with an air of bonhomie. Once you discover the warmth and giddy sense of humor that define his recordings, you will probably be hooked - just like the many Machito fans all over the world who get a smile on their faces with the si.
