Live From CBGB is a live album by Living Colour recorded live on December 19, 1989 at the legendary CBGB club, but not released until January 11, 2005 by Legacy Recordings. This concert was the band's homecoming after experiencing worldwide success with the studio album Vivid throughout 1988 and 1989. The show features a wealth of new material that would soon be released on their Grammy winning follow-up album Time's Up the following year. Surprisingly, perhaps, there are just four songs from the debut, joined by a half-dozen that had yet to be released on their sophomore outing. Most valuably for committed fans, there's also a cover of Bad Brains' Sailin' On which Living Colour did record for an early-'90s various-artists compilation and two Vernon Reid originals that make their first official appearance here, Soldiers Blues an. Live from CBGB's. Living Colour Format: Audio CD. Living Colour was a good bit more musically sophisticated than any of those bands, however, with their varied backgrounds in the NY avant-jazz scene. They could swing like a mother, though something that can't really be said for their closest competitors like Sonic Youth or Husker Du, Naked City excepted. This album sounds good, and is really live. The set is ok. It's not a very long show, and two of the songs are unreleased LC songs, and the Bad Brains cover Sailin' On
