This album traded in the horns and the R & B influences of the previous Men Without Women for a raw, garage rock sound. Steven Van Zandt's VOICE OF AMERICA is simply one of the best records of the century, definitely on my list of the all-time top 20 American recordings. Every track rocks and when Steven wails CAN YOU HEAR ME WHERE'S THE VOICE OF AMERICA - - - every hair on the back of your neck stands up. It was Van Zandt's second album, after his prior release Men Without Women, and he was again backed by the Disciples Of Soul, including bassist Jean Beauvoir, and drummer Dino Danelli. Van Zandt himself handled vocals and guitars, as well as writing and producing the record's ten songs the 1991 reissue included two bonus cuts.
