Short intro
Lee Roys real name was Leo Anthony, and he was the brother of bandleader Ray Anthony, known as the last survivor of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Ray Anthonys fifties recordings, of which the original version of Bunny Hop is one, are pretty square. Lee Roy, however, with a smaller band that often featured his baritone saxophone playing, added a little grease into the arrangements, making them more exciting. Volleying between shamelessly crude and totally vulnerable, Bad Bunny and his slow-burning baritone opened the floor for Latin pop thats not afraid to get uncomfortable. X 100pre is a portrait of Puerto Rico in its renaissance - a critical footnote in the history of the Latin-with-an-X zeitgeist thats been sweeping the globe. Whats amazing about the album is how his rich, specific inner life speaks to universal truths about growing up in Compton.
