Short intro
Gordon produced the album Pretty on the Inside, by Loves band Hole in 1991, but in the book admits to being left unimpressed by Loves egomaniacal and manipulative behavior. Courtney was the kind of person who spent a lot of time growing up staring in the mirror practicing their look for the camera, Gordon writes. If Courtney wanted something from you, she would use 100 percent of her charm and persuasion to get it. She also wonders if Love might be mentally ill. I have a lot of compassion for her, Gordon explains to The Post. Its difficult to have two years around the time of Ku. Courtney Love: I'm in my sunny rental in fabulous Beverly Hills, California, eating chocolate chip cookie dough and watching the last season of Downton Abbey. I don't like reality shows. I have a friend in London who lets me stay at his house, a successful art dealer, and I looked at his TiVo list-he hadn't paid his cable-and it was all The Real Housewives, and I was like, OK, I can read a book, or I can watch 'The Real Housewives' of whatever. Pitchfork: At first, I wondered why you released those songs as Courtney Love rather than as Hole, like your last album, Nobody's Daughter. CL: Well, that was a mistake in 2010. Courtney Love, circa 1994. Mick HutsonRedfernsGetty. There is only one ground rule for this interview. If I start to cry, Courtney Love says over the phone a few weeks before we meet, I will probably get up and leave the room. Dont be offended. As it turns out, she does crypartway into the third hour of our first session in a hotel suite in Buffalo, N. It would have come as a greater shock if she didnt. Now every note and word Love sings onstage in her diamond-hard shriek ring loud with the resonance of recent history, including the fatal drug overdose of Hole bassist Kristen Pfaff just two months after Cobains suicide. Kim Gordon, former bassist and frontwoman in the totemic alt-rock band Sonic Youth, is discussing the breakdown of her 29-year marriage to Thurston Moore. Kim Gordon: Punk is an attitude. It's just a whole way of seeing the world, of being an outsider Natalia Mantini . The Dalai Lama said you dont have to forgive someone if you can have empathy for them. And if the Dalai Lama said it Kim Gordon, former bassist and frontwoman in the totemic alt-rock band Sonic Youth, is discussing the breakdown of her 29-year marriage to Thurston Moore. Marianne Faithfull and Courtney Love at a taping of Later with Jools Holland, 1995. What others are saying. we play guitar together. There wont be a 'Kurt and Courtney' album, like John and Yoko. Courtney Love Cobain, Big Day Out, Sydney . Kim Gordon is like the Joan Didion of indie rock, an avatar of laconic California cool, a figure both utterly familiar and inscrutable, who, as a founding member of Sonic Youth, left her mark on an era even as she remained somehow apart from it. To those of us who have been listening to her forever that voice-pitched low and assertively tuneless, seeing her play whenever we could, and tracking her forays into fashion and modeling and art, she has remained elusive, off to the side, bristlingly creative but also demanding: a category of one. I thought of Girl in a Band when I heard Gordons new solo album, No Home Record out from Matador Records on October 11. Kim Althea Gordon born April 28, 1953 is an American musician, singer, songwriter and bassist, guitarist, and vocalist in the alternative rock band Sonic Youth. Born in Rochester, New York, Gordon was raised in Los Angeles, California, where her father was a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating from Los Angeles's Otis College of Art and Design, Gordon moved to New York City to begin an art career. There, she formed Sonic Youth with Thurston Moore in 1981. She and. Born in upstate New York, Kim Gordon, 66, formed Sonic Youth in 1981 with Thurston Moore, whom she later married the couple have a daughter. In 1991 she produced Holes debut album, Pretty On The Inside, and is considered a key influence in the development of grunge and riot grrrl. Now divorced, Gordon is a solo artist and appears at All Points East festival in London in May. When were you happiest In kindergarten, riding my bike and making objects out of clay. What is your greatest fear Not being able to come up with another idea for work. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself Ov. But when I called her in early September for our interview, Kim Gordon, guitarist, vocalist, and co-founder of Sonic Youth-one of the most iconic and influential noise rock bands of the past 30-plus years-was having a very mundane problem. Comforted as I was to know that Gordon doesn't have some superhuman ability to avoid the daily annoyances that swerve into our lives, there was still an ocean between us, literally: We'd scheduled the less-than-ideal phone interview because the 63-year-old artist was in Australia for a series of shows and speaking engagements about rock, rebellion, and resilienceRelated to Kim Gordon / Courtney Love - Phone Interview For Rollerderby
