KILL SWITCH ... KLICK play a hook-rich music which spans so called Torture Tech and old school Punk, as well as moody, almost ethnic ritualistic moments with almost the same adept verve as TRENT REZNOR, although sonically this is far less explorative. Angry guitar escapes the muddiness of real drumming for the pin-precision programming of machines. And like the Punk which exploded in showers of blood and mucous in the late 70s, this music's simple, to-the-point and catchy. Others around that time played with what might be regarded today as primitive drum machines - METAL URBAIN didn't do a bad job, making us sing along in French, even if we were unilingual - early ULTRAVOX favoured ROLAND presets, and of course SUICIDE totally redefined Primal Rock with manic but unvarying drum box strafing. But we have moved on. Tell people back then that you could program machines to the standard you can today and they'd have laughed or stoned you for being a dream-drugged Hippy.
But tempos and styles on this album change, and various genre types have left their mark on the music. "Hiroshima", for instance, could be almost any RE-CONSTRICTION band in a mellow mood; "A/B Continuity" has an experimental structure, loose and echoing out into the darkness while the vocalist would sound like KIRK BRANDON if he could manage to lift his voice just that wee bit higher; "Object Of My Desire" sounds like post-apocalyptic temple ritual music. Other influences blend in here and there, becoming a gestalt, chameleonic sound which visits high summits and deep chasms without losing it's central core theme.

It's nice that they use LYDON's voice on this before they create a lulling passive cover of "Submission" which is stripped almost to nothingness.
