Kansas was founded in 1970. The classic occupation was formed by Kerry Livgren (guitar), Steve Walsh (vocals, keyboards), Dave Hope (bass), Phil Ehart (drums), Robby Steinhardt (violin, vocals) and Richard Williams (guitar). In this line-up the band remained together until 1980. The greatest successes in this period were the albums hit Leftoverture (1976), with the Carry on Wayward Son and Point of Know Return (1977), featuring the hit Dust in the Wind.
