Blue Jays is a 1975 album by Justin Hayward and John Lodge. It was recorded and released during the Moody Blues' five-year hiatus. During work on the Moody Blues album that was to follow Seventh Sojourn, bandmates Lodge, Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas and Graeme Edge summoned Hayward and producer Tony Clarke out of a recording session to call off the project. These songs penned by HaywardLodge are excellent. Lyrics are evocative and pristine, more sincere than the mainstream Moody Blues CD's-much like Hayward's Songwriter album. My only quibble is the sound quality of the CD. I don't know that generation the mass-produced CD I got is, but it's definately not the best quality. Justin Hayward and John Lodge definitely work well together and the minds of these two musical geniuses can really produce some very mesmerizing music. The orchestral arrangements in this album, especially onMaybe a beautiful ballad sung by John, is brilliant. With just a 4 man backing band and all members playing the instruments, they sound like a full blown orchestra
