The album was released on November 3rd, 2009, two years into The Strokes' sudden hiatus. The eight-song album was recorded in New York, Los Angeles, and Omaha, Nebraska. With production by Jason Lader and Mike Mogis. I wouldve gone weirder with the music, but I wanted to be smart. I didnt want people to say, Okay, this is his weird abstract thing, and dismiss the album. I worked too hard on it for that to happenI wanted to be crazy original and bridge the gap between traditional music and modern music. Phrazes for the Young. Soon enough, however, Phrazes for the Young veers off into territory that should throw listeners expecting a Strokes album in all but name for several loops. Ludlow St. is the first signal that Casablancas is up for anything: an unlikely but successful mishmash of shuffling country, a brass band, piston-like beats, and a recurring Asian-tinged motif, it plays like a drunken urban cowboy walking through a Chinatown street parade, recounting the history of New York, his history with the street, and his own history at. I honestly would give this album an 11 if I could. Julian Casablancas is not only a great musician, but also a great lyricist. While he,I honestly would give this album an 11 if I could. While he, himself is not too fond of this album for its so called mainstream sound. I think it is great. Every song is pure poetry, and some songs like Glass or 11th Dimension could be multiple poems if separated correctly. In it, a 23-year old Julian Casablancas manhandled his mic stand, eyed the camera with a hypnotic mix of rage and anxiety, and tugged at his jacket as if he was about to burst. At one point, Casablancas swatted his mic down and left the stage in a huff only to return exactly as guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. wrapped up a brief solo. Chaos control. Phrazes for the Young is a jumble of contradictions. The music and artwork is steeped in 1970s and 1980s tropes yet also vaguely futuristic. The words are apocalyptic, depressing, and sometimes worthy of a zen self-help manual, and while there are only eight songs, this thing seems to go on forever. An all around nice pressing!

The vinyl comes in a sleeve lined with polyester, inside a normal single pocketed cover.

I did have maybe 5 pops on both sides combined, but nothing to raise an eyebrow about, really.
The music itself is as expected, nice quality!
