Short intro

Columbia Records 19581986 is a Johnny Cash compilation album released on Columbia Records in 1987 to commemorate the 28 years Cash who had recently left Columbia for Mercury Records recorded with the label, featuring 20 tracks dating from 1958 to 1986. This album contains many of Cash's famous hits, including Ring Of Fire and Folsom Prison Blues, as well as some of his less-known recordings, such as Seasons of My Heart and Without Love. The album failed to chart, and none of the selections were. Released in 1987, Columbia Records 1958-1986 is an excellent summary of his two and a half decades at the label, even if it is not perfect. First of all, the title is slightly misleading, because this compilation stops roughly around 1986 and the one new track, the opener Oh, What a Dream, is really an outtake from the early '60s. This is not quite a greatest hits album, but it's a good overview of Johnny Cash's Columbia Records recording career. Many of the songs here, of course, were hits, but there are also a several songs that were not hits, which are just as good as the hits. The CD starts off with the first song Cash recorded for Columbia, the previously unreleased Oh, What a Dream which was later re-recorded as You Dreamer You, which was released. The album failed to chart, and none of the selections were released as singles. Track listing. Wikidata: Q5149810. Type: Album Compilation. Status: Official.
