Stormbringer is a 1970 album released by John and Beverley Martyn. It has no connection to Michael Moorcock's 1965 Elric novel of the same name. John Martyn wrote six of the ten songs and Beverley four. The album was recorded under the direction of Paul Harris in Woodstock, New York. Two of the tracks feature the drumming of Levon Helm, from the Band who had an influence on John Martyn's music. All tracks composed by John Martyn except where indicated. Go Out And Get It. For Stormbringer, John and Beverley Martyn went to Woodstock, NY, and recorded with several local musicians, including session hands Paul Harris and Harvey Brooks, as well as the Band's Levon Helm. Very much in the mold of the electric Fairport Convention of this period, Stormbringer sizzles with acoustic interplay and an almost jazzy feel. Highlights include Woodstock not the Joni Mitchell tune and the title track. Track Listing. John & Beverley Martyn - Stormbringer 1970. Scottish folk singer John Martyn was originally hired to be his British wife Beverley's back-up guitarist for recording sessions in America, the pair were signed up by Warner Brothers who sent them to Woodstock in 1969 to rehearse with producer Paul Harris. The actual recording at R&R Studios, New York, took only six days with two days mixing. The album was released in February 1970. Martyn was inspired by The Band's Music From Big Pink to experiment to find a distinctive guitar sound. John and Beverley Martyn's classic album from 1970 has now been digitally remastered from the original master tapes and has been expanded with four previously unreleased Demos recorded at Sound Techniques, Chelsea on 16th April 1969. Having previously recorded two solo albums London Conversation and the Tumbler John Martyn teamed up with his wife Beverley to record Stormbringer. Still very much in the folkish vein, some of the stand out tracks include 'Go Out' and 'Get It' featured on the fantastic Island sampler LP Bumpers plus the title track.
