Born in Cangas del Narcea Asturias, Joaquín Pixán won his first competition, organized by Spanish Radio, at the age of 13. He began his studies at the Escuela de Arte Dramático in Madrid, followed by vocal studies with Carmen Pérez-Durías, Lola Rodríguez Aragón, Felix Lavilla and Miguel Zanetti his tutor when he was awarded the Humboldt Scholarship. Joaquín Pixán has recently been awarded the Premio Istituto Nazionale Tostiano, in Ortona, Italy, for his recording of works by Paolo Tosti, accompanied by pianist Giovanni Auletta and violinist Ara Malikian.
