John William Jo Callis is an English musician and songwriter who played guitar with the Edinburgh based. In late 1978, after the release of the band's only album, The Rezillos split in two, with Callis forming Shake along with Simon Templar born Simon Bloomfield and Angel Paterson. Shake released two singles before splitting, with Callis later joining Boots for Dancing. p p Callis released a solo single, Woah Yeah, in 1981 on the pop:Aural label, and also joined The Human League, playing both keyboards and lead guitar and making contributions as a backing vocalist. Woah Yeah is the lead track off an EP by Jo CAllis, now of The Human League, late of Shake ex-Rezillos musicians plus current Teardrop guitarist Troy Tate with whom this was recorded. A pity Shake never got a proper chance to show their paces - they were excellent, as is this fine example of intelligent pop - energetic, feeling and highly tuneful. Only slightly less strong is Sinistrale on the flip, and a busy Tate song Dodo Boys completes a small gem guaranteed to please whatever your particular loyalties. Project on labels.
