Chase This Light is the sixth studio album by American rock band Jimmy Eat World, released on October 16, 2007 by Interscope Records. The album was executive produced by Butch Vig. Recording for Chase This Light began in July 2006 with producer Butch Vig. In June 2007, it was announced that the album was being mixed by Chris Lord-Alge. The song Carry You originated as a track from Jim Adkins' side project Go Big Casino. Jimmy Eat World has recorded other Go Big Casino songs previously like Hear You. The album was limited to 1,000 copies which were produced on the night and made available for This Light marked Jimmy Eat Worlds sixth studio release. The album was received well and boasted the singles Big Casino and Always Be. The cover for the album has confused some listeners who did not purchase a physical copy of the album. The band put the following picture on the back cover, showing that the peacock feather resembles a lit match: Chase This Light Q&A. Its dark, inward-looking, and more mature-sounding songs didn't wreck their career, but the record didn't exactly further it, either. With Chase This Light, the band returns to the straightforward, hooky, and radio-friendly sound of Bleed American and lightens things up in the lyric department in hopes of recapturing its position in the marketplace. They aren't exactly singing about sunshine and lollipops, mostly love problems and the ills of society, but the cloud of gloom. Chase this Light sounds like a happy album but there is just the right amount of sorrow in all the catchy pop-punk and it makes the songs sound very honest and fun and its really something you can relate to. There is some new sounds out of them also, not really a whole lot but enough to make up for anything lacking from there old albums. Overall I don't see how any Jimmy Eat World fan could be let down by Chase This Light. This is the only Jimmy Eat World album where a ballad isn't my favourite song.
