Short intro

A Passion Play is the sixth studio album by Jethro Tull, released in July 1973 in both UK and US. Like its predecessor, Thick as a Brick 1972, it is a concept album comprising individual songs arranged into a single continuous piece of music which is split into two parts on the original vinyl LP release. The theme of the concept is apparently the spiritual journey of one man Ronnie Pilgrim in the afterlife. In the original tour to support the album, three videos were used: one for the intro of. It is their second concept album after Thick as a Brick, and unlike that one which was a parody of concept albums and prog rock, this one is a real concept album with no hint of parody. The story of A Passion Play is split into 4 Acts, each containing a group of songs pertaining to the Act, with an Interlude in the middle. It revolves around a man named Ronnie Pilgrim and his spiritual journey in the afterlife. He dies, experiences judgement, visits Heaven and Hell, and then is reborn. Most original releases of the LP and CD had the album listed as only one or two songs that comprise the entire suite. Jethro Tull's second album-length composition, A Passion Play is very different from - and not quite as successful as - Thick as a Brick. Ian Anderson utilizes reams of biblical and biblical-sounding references, interwoven with modern language, as a sort of a rock equivalent to T. Eliot's The Wasteland. As with most progressive rock, the words seem important and profound, but their meaning is anyone's guess The ice-cream lady wet her drawers, to see you in the Passion Play. with Anderson as a dour but engaging singersage who, at least at one point, seems. Alongside Thick As A Brick, 1973s A Passion Play is Jethro Tulls most overtly Progressive and conceptual release, featuring a complex poetic narrative framed by the most adventurous music of the bands career. A 1 US hit on its release, the album offers dazzling virtuoso instrumental passages, evocative synthesiser sequences, and fuses Folk, Jazz and Rock influences in a strikingly unique, wholly Jethro Tull way. With Jethro Tull 's 1972 opus ' Thick as a Brick ,' band mastermind Ian Anderson aimed to subvert the bloated prog-rock excess of his peers while also paying tribute to their epic sweep. And he succeeded. With its absurd lyrical concept, inter-connected musical themes and instrumental bombast, 'Brick' celebrated the genre's complexity while also lampooning its straight-faced one-upsmanship. Released during the height of the prog boom, the album brought Tull an even broader fanbase, topping the American charts. But at what cost
