All tracks were recorded live at the Fillmore East in New York. Tracks 1, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, and 15 were recorded on May 3, 1968. Tracks 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 13 were recorded on May 4, 1968. It is not indicated on which day track 14 was recorded.

The song Thing is an experimental freeform instrumental that later morphed into Bear Melt, which appears on Bless Its Pointed Little Head.
