Originally released in 1981.This Reissue was pressed in 1984 but Side A instead plays the A side of David Sylvian's solo album Brilliant Trees (released earlier the same year) while the B side plays the regular B side of Tin Drum. The labels however state the regular tracklist of Tin Drum.

Tin Drum is the fifth and final studio album by English band Japan, released in November 1981 by record label Virgin. It peaked at No. 12 on the UK charts, and featured the top 5 single Ghosts. It has received acclaim as the band's best and most original work. Tin Drum continued the band's now-established mix of electronic elements with traditional instrumentation, but leans far more towards Far Eastern and Orientialist influences than any of their previous albums. Partially growing out of their success in the country they were named after, as well as growing friendship and affiliation with such bands as Yellow Magic Orchestra, Japan made their most unique, challenging, and striking album in Tin Drum. Following the departure of guitarist Rob Dean, Japan began to let more East Asianparticularly Chineseinfluences seep into their music, and into Sylvians lyrics as well. The band started experimenting with all sorts of different Chinese-influenced synth and percussion sounds, as keyboardist Richard Barbieri recalled in 1994 to Sound on Sound: We took such care over each individual sound that we got quite paranoid about all. There are no trashy glam flourishes, no awkward Bryan Ferry posturing. This is an album with its own voice with every member confident in their role, and not a sound out of place.
