Scumdogs of the Universe is the second album by satirical shock rock band Gwar. The album is their first album on Metal Blade Records and was released on January 8, 1990. To date, it is the band's best-selling album. A deluxe 30th anniversary box set of Scumdogs is set for release in August 2020, with remixed and remastered audio by producer Ronan Chris Murphy, as well as a cassette containing rehearsal demos and previously unreleased tracks. The lyrics of Scumdogs explore GWARs ever-expanding lore as well as other obscene, depraved activities. As twisted as songs like Maggots, Vlad the Impaler, and Slaughterama are, Gwar is never genuinely scary, but rather humorous and goofy. In fact, Scumdogs of the Universe is probably the bands most eclectic album in terms of vocalists. It really does compliment the whole album. This album also contains Gwars experimentation with samples. The 4th track, Slaughterama, is definitely one of the better tracks on this album. Sleazy P. Martini is featured in this track, and this song is basically about a game show involving the killing of Nazi skinheads and hippies. Its overall an insanely hilarious track, with clever punch lines lining the track left and right, and a game show type tune to the guitars.
