Gridlock'd The Soundtrack is the soundtrack to Vondie Curtis-Hall film Gridlock'd and was released on 28 January 1997 by Death Row Records and Interscope Records. The track Off The Hook was originally recorded for the LBC Crew debut album Haven't You Heard We Givin' Something Bacc To The Street, which was later shelved and the songs were cycled through other Death Row releases. easy 5-stars w/o slightest hesitation. further........an entirely new monster for all of us at the time it hit (and we only thought we knew what to expect next. ha) (far above and beyond the raw emotional power that was TSF). here is a brutally emotional piece of long-play sonic art whose cold atrial core is filled with sweetly dark and mysterious cinematic music (tsf couldn’t touch these foul angel wings)—every piece on this album is connected to the next, flowing sleekly like leviathan (this is why there are “hidden tracks”) (closer observation reveals the interlude tracks are not hidden, merely skipped in the track listing on the liner art—clever enough). the soulful washes of chilling depth seem to writhe and float within obliterated industrial and breakbeat rhythms of varying tempo whose original face has been scraped bare to reveal raw inspired FIRE. the vocal poetry, although shy participants on further, are NOT gone from this release (thankfully so). in fact the vocals present in some pieces on here are highly emotional contemplations and blend perfectly into the massiveness of each underlying composition. further is an LP. this means you make Time to Listen all the way through and put yourself on the mental plane of the composer. this is an unforgettable magic world window pane. it is a TIMELESS industrial masterpiece and dark beauty not soon to be forgotten by those of us enamored by this group. from the atmospheric spell in the first moments all the way to the absolutely exceptional remix in the end, by what would become a separate leg to carry the Gridlock story even further (Dryft), this album latches onto the willing mind and does not let go...leading you sweetly.. and tempestuously into oblivion. thank you for this one, Gridlock

As the name would suggest... Gridlock's 2nd album takes their debut album, The Synthetic Form, a step further and creates an even bigger, more evil sounding IDM. I often find this CD to be a sister-album so to speak with their debut because the two albums seemed to be made in the same mindset (while their two other albums is a completely different story). Gridlock likes to throw extras on their CDs is this one is no exception. You get 3 untitled, hidden interludes and 2 remixes. A must-have if you enjoyed their Synthetic Form album.

I own this CD and "Formless," and I liked this one much more. I have a copy of their earlier works somewhere, and I like how they lost the vocals, got into the nitty gritty and let loose (between diddling on a piano) on a lot of the songs here. I like 9 out of the 15 songs here, and I think I like it best because of the basic principles of going back and forth between tracks to build and diminish a beat and idea. (The CD is mostly comprised of songs which flow into each other, with a harder track replacing the previous one, and vice versa). Great release...pick it up!
