Short intro
The Up Escalator is an album by Graham Parker and The Rumour and was released on May 23, 1980 by Stiff Records as LP SEEZ 23 and as cassette ZSEEZ 23. In the USA, the album was released by Arista. The Up Escalator was released as the follow-up to Parker's successful 1979 release, Squeezing Out Sparks. The Rumour's keyboardist, Bob Andrews had left the band after the Squeezing Out Sparks tour, being replaced on The Up Escalator by studio musician Nicky Hopkins, the E-Street Band's Danny Federici. Update Required To play the media you will need to either update your browser to a recent version or update your Flash plugin. The Up Escalator failed to catch the ears of the mass audience, and Parker would soon part ways with the Rumour, but if this album doesn't present them in the best light, it shows that they could play tough, passionate rock & roll that could survive even the most adverse recording conditions. Average Rating: 67100 from 23 votes. The Rumour seized Parkers passion and focused it, honed it like a knife. Regrettably, on The Up Escalator, producer Jimmy Iovine and perhaps, though I hope not. The new album seems like an attempt to gentrify Parker, to turn him into a commercial classic-by-association by surrounding him with blue-chip artifacts: e. the Chase Manhattan mural cover art, a host of legitimizing guest musicians including. O Lord, the Boss himself. In addition to sabotaging songs. The Up Escalators lackluster sound brutally exposes failures of performance, composition and nerve. This LP has an odd, slapdash feel.
