Short intro
Don Carlos: Ah, je ne verrai plus la Reine. O don fatal. Verdi: Macbeth, Don Carlos, Otello, Requiem. Various Artists. Verdi conducted his Requiem in Paris, London and Vienna in 1875 and in Cologne in 1876. It seemed that it would be his last work. In the words of his biographer John Rosselli, it confirmed him as the unique presiding genius of Italian music. No fellow near him in popularity or reputation. When the composer Ferdinand Hiller asked Verdi whether he preferred Aida or Don Carlos, Verdi replied that Aida had more bite and if you'll forgive the word, more theatricality. During the rehearsals for the Naples production of Aida Verdi amused himself by writing his only string quartet, a sprightly work which shows in its last movement that he had. Verdi: Don Carlos. Ritorna vincitor. Verdi: Macbeth. Verdi: Messa da Requiem. Lorin Maazel, Münchner Philharmoniker. 2018 Live. Italian Opera Arias. Carlos Slivskin. Verdi: I Lombardi alla prima crociata. Verdi: Otello. Jonas Kaufmann. Verdi's Requiem, composed in 1874, is a huge, great wind-machine of a thing, often labelled an opera in all but name. Verdi had written a 'Libera me' as a part of what was meant to be a joint Requiem by him and several other composers, in honour of Rossini. When all that fell through, his Libera me was sent back to him. In his sixties and prompted by the death of his friend, the writer Manzoni, he set to work on surrounding it with its other constituent parts. Verdi - Don Carlos. Verdi Pictures. Verdi: Macbeth, Don Carlos, Otello, Requiem 2 CDs. Writer: Joseph Mery - Camille du Locle, Composers: Giuseppe Verdi. Messa da Requiem : 2. Quid sum miser. Mirella Freni. Writer: Anonymous, Composers: Giuseppe Verdi. This item:Verdi: Requiem & Operatic Choruses by Giuseppe Verdi Audio CD . Only 5 left in stock more on the way. Ships from and sold by . Verdi: Spuntato ecco from Don Carlos. Listen Now . Verdi: Fuoco di gioia from Otello. The album also features five popular choruses from Verdi's operas. If, like me, you got carried away listening to the Requiem soloists, here's your chance to hear this remarkable chorus without any soloist distraction. The Don Carlos chorus sung in Italian not French was a rousing affair. Patria oppressa was appropriately subdued and melancholy. Giuseppe Verdi. Otello Acts 1 & 2.
