George Jackson's lone album Sweet Down Home Delta Blues is a straightahead collection of Delta blues. Considering that he's a house writer for Malaco Records, where he specialized in merging contemporary blues with soul, that comes as a little bit of a surprise. Unfortunately, he doesn't do the Delta as well as he does soul-blues, and Sweet Down Home Delta Blues suffers from predictability and perfunctory performances. Occasionally, the music comes to life, either through inspired playing or a solid song, but that only serves to remind the listeners of what this could have been.
