Released in the wake of the commercial success of his comeback, Que Pasa, Latino America is a double-disc that combines Gato Barbieri's first two albums for a major label. Both records were recorded in the early '70s, largely in Brazil and Argentina, and they have been remastered by Ed Michel, the original producer of these sessions. The album was re-released in 1997 as part of Latino America, a double CD that also included the album Chapter Two: Hasta Siempre along with unreleased tracks. In Creem magazine, Robert Christgau said like Barbieri's previous album Bolivia, Chapter One: Latin America is a recommended introduction to the only jazzman this side of Miles Davis to translate avant-garde into semi.
