In the '80s, Jamaica's veteran vocalists really were All in the Same Boat, and a leaky one at that, pushed out to sea by the DJs who now commanded the island's attention and affection. Many vocal groups called it a day, singers relocated abroad hoping to jump start their career in more amenable climes, and others decided to stay home but turned their attention to the international market. Originally released in 1986, All In The Same Boat boasts a much more sophisticated and more slick production than any of Freddie McGregor's previous releases but that's not exactly a bad thing when considering that the quality of the music itself is very high. Granted, this album's production approach is very high-tech for its time and some of the songs bear stronger resemblances to the Urban R&B music of the time than to Reggae but Freddie McGregor was always one of those artists who would give you more than you could want and while this album DOES sound dated. Freddie McGregor born 27 June 1956, Clarendon, Jamaica has been variously a Jamaican singer, musician and record producer. His music career began when he was seven years old. In 1963 he joined with Ernest Wilson and Peter Austin to form The Clarendonians, and began to record for the Studio One label.
